A kind gesture to a complete stranger.  Opening the door for an unassuming person with a handful of items.  A sweet and gentle smile aimed towards someone who is having an unexpectedly horrible day.  These are actions that people take for granted on a daily basis, not knowing that these small sacrifices of love can change the temperature of a person's day on impact.  Coko is all too knowledgeable about what kind of sacrifice love is, and she is more than willing to share the wealth of revelation that she has received in her walk with Christ.

The Winner In Me is the defining moment of her ministry of encouragement, but it does not end with her music.  When showcasing her awesome vocal abilities to fellow believers or carrying on her everyday living, Coko makes it a point to show the true meaning of love through the eyes of the LORD.  After a recent performance, she spent a few minutes with us to discuss her album and the types of people that she looks to minister to in song and life.

Gospel Highlights: I would like to get some information about your album out to our readership and to get into the details of the project.  What is the title of the album?

Coko: The Winner In Me is the title of the album.

Gospel Highlights: When was the original release date of this project?

Coko: It was released on July 14th.

Gospel Highlights: This is your second gospel project, which I would like to congratulate you on for seeing this come to fruition.  Who are some of the producers and artists that you featured on the album?

Coko: I worked with a lot of producers, but they are not well known producers.  My husband produced four tracks with his buddy, along with Shep Crawford, David Caton, Tony Homer, and Jazz Nixon.  Some of the featured artists are Israel Houghton, Canton Jones, Kelly Price, Youthful Praise and my mom.

Gospel Highlights: Obviously with an album such as this, Christ is the core and sole message in the music.  Can you identify any other messages that would seem to press through more so than any other?

Coko: Well, there is really only one message for the whole [album] to me, which is to encourage and uplift people that may be feeling down and depressed. [People] deal with insecurities and things like that, and so those are the types of people that I am reaching out to.

Gospel Highlights: Since the album hit the shelves, what  kind of responses have you been getting from the listeners?

Coko: We have been getting a great response.  We debuted at #4 on the Billboard Gospel chart, so it has been doing [well].

Gospel Highlights: I would like to give you an opportunity to minister to someone who is reading this that is going through a rough period in their lives.  What do you generally say to people that come to you that are going through crisis and different seasons in their lives that could use an encouraging word?

Coko: Just pick up the album because everything is on there.  The title cut, “The Winner In Me,” is one of my favorites.  I had to speak to myself with this when I was down and out, and feeling insecure.  I had to realize that there is a winner in me, and His name is Jesus.  I have another song that is called “Rescue Me,” which is about when you are going through and just crying out to God, “I need you to rescue me!”
